Quick log
Quick log: capture care in the moment it happens
Most pastoral care happens away from a desk: a conversation in the hallway, a hospital visit, a phone call from the car. The quick log exists so the record takes seconds, not an evening of catch-up. On your phone, the raised Log button sits in the middle of the bottom bar; one tap opens the form, you say who it is about and what happened, and you are done. This guide covers where the quick log lives, why it asks for the person first, what a log can carry, and where your words go once you save.
Where do I find it?
On a phone, the bottom bar shows Home, People, Care, and More, with a raised Log button in the center. That button opens the quick log from anywhere in the app. On a person's profile, logging starts already scoped to that person, and Home offers the same door.
The Log button appears for everyone who can log care: the account owner, admins with care access, and care partners. If your church's billing has lapsed into read-only, logging pauses until a plan is active again.
- On a phone, the raised Log button in the center of the bottom bar opens the quick log from anywhere.
- The person comes first: until you choose who the note is about, the picker is the whole form.
- A log carries a note, a type, when it happened, and an optional follow-up with an assignee and due date.
- Where dictation is enabled, a microphone in the note box captures the moment hands-free.
- Every log starts private to its author. Sharing is a per-note choice, enforced in the database.
- Log another keeps the form open, so a whole Sunday of conversations takes one sitting.
Why does it ask for the person first?
When the quick log opens without a person already in scope, the person picker is the whole form: choose who this is about first, then write what happened. Until you pick someone, there is no note box to fill, so a note can never be written into the void or attached to the wrong person by accident.
Once you pick, the rest of the form appears, and your draft survives if you change the person before saving. Opening the log from a profile skips the question entirely, because the person is already known.
What can a log carry?
The note itself, first. A type, chosen from chips like visit, call, or note, with more types behind a More toggle. When it happened, which defaults to just now and expands to a date and time when you are logging something from earlier. And a follow-up, if the moment needs a next step, assigned to a teammate with a due date.
Where voice dictation is enabled, a microphone button sits in the note box, so a visit can be captured hands-free on the way to the car. Dictation types for you; nothing is sent or shared by speaking that you would not have typed.
Who sees what I write?
You, unless you decide otherwise. Every log starts private to its author, and the form's visibility section asks who can see this before you save: keep it to yourself, or share it with owners, admins with care access, others assigned to the same person, or specific named people.
The choice is enforced in the database, not just the interface, and the care visibility guide walks through every option. The person the note is about never sees it; members do not hold FlockConnect accounts.
What happens after I save?
The record lands on the person's care history, visible to exactly the audience you chose. Any follow-up you added is routed to its assignee and starts showing up in their follow-up list, with overdue ones surfacing first.
If you have several moments to record from one Sunday, Log another keeps the form open with the next person picker ready, so a full morning of conversations can be captured in one short sitting.
